"Pranayama - The art of breathing"
This course focuses on simple and complex breathing exercises that offer better health to the body and mind. In this tutorial we will have an idea on how to 'build' a practice in pranayama or also to manage our already practiced.
'Prana' is the life force and cosmic energy and 'yama' is regulation and restraint. Pranayama is the art of breathing.
It leads to control of the mind, emotional stability, concentration, and meditation.
Pranayama bridges the mind, body and soul as a means to the journey into our being, to a point of balance and joy.
The most gross manifestation of prana in the human body is its movement in the lungs. This acts as a wheel that regulates and activates other energies in the body in motion.
Pranayama practice is to control its flow through the lungs where the prana is controlled.
When the finer prana is controlled, its coarser forms within our body come into control.
When we concentrate and consciously regulate breathing, we can store more prana and energy.
The man who has abundant pranic energy radiates vitality and power which can be seen by those who come in contact with him.

As part of the celebrations of World Yoga Day, the Association of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga Hellas organizes a multifarious, online event (music, practice, breathing exercises, presentation) with the unique view of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga.

The online event will be held via zoom, on 19th of June at 8.30am Greek time zone

Program :

8.15 : opening of the platform

8.25 : Welcoming speech from the president of the Association, Alexandra Dimitriou.

8.30 : Live music meditation (nada yoga) with Nektarios Mitritsakis

What makes Indian classical music so special is its profound relationship with meditation, a way to spiritual development of the musician and listener through the sound (Nada).

Though it is rich in lyricism and sensitivity mostly it aims to inspire a deep inner stillness within its listener.

Although the introverted beauty of this music can be treated as entertainment it is actually more of a meditation through the sound.

While those listeners familiar with this music may more readily experience these deeper meditative aspects, even those new to this type of music can enjoy and benefit from its therapeutically qualities.

We will have a 30-minute meditation live session with the of the most ancient musical instruments of north India, the Rudra Veena (a string instrument dedicated to lord Shiva).

Details about the music & musical instruments you can find at : www.pathofsound.gr

9.15 : Practice in the primary series of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga.
Full led class, talk primary with Kristina Karitinou .

Introduction to Ashtanga Pranayama
Acquaintance with a series of breathing practices that are an integral part of the tradition and practice of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga.

11.30 : "Patanjali’s Ashtanga Yoga meets Ashtanga Vinyasa" , presentation from Nancy Hitzanidou.

The globally famous and profound practice of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga shares the same name with Patanjala Ashtanga, the renowned eightfold path of Classical Yoga, reaching us through thousands of years. What are thus the meeting points of those two practices?
In this short lecture, we will attempt to make a concise presentation of the Yogic Path, aiming especially at those entry points, where our practice on the mat introduces us to the ancient tradition of yoga, which -according to its timeless wisedom teachings- leads one to inner freedom.
